LinkedIn Finds a Buyer in Microsoft, Locks in US$26.2 Billion Purchasing Price

Microsoft purchased LinkedIn today, a assuming movement that PCMag USA aptly describes as 1 that "puts previous social media acquisitions to shame". Having entered into a definitive agreement, Redmond is splashing US$26.2 billion for this new purchase - US$196 per share in an all-greenbacks transaction.

While this move will see Microsoft fully takeover LinkedIn, the business-focused social network will retain its distinct brand, civilization, and independence with its CEO, Jeff Weiner, reporting directly to Micrsoft CEO, Satya Nadella. The buy, having received the bankroll of both Weiner and Reid Hoffman, Chairman of the LinkedIn Lath, is expected to be completed by the finish of 2022.

Nadella, in a Microsoft joint printing statement with LinkedIn, reiterates that the pervasive social network for businesses is a fantastic platform and is still renowned for being highly valued the world over. "In acquiring LinkedIn, nosotros aim to accelerate its growth and pair it up with Microsoft Function 365 and Dynamics to further empower every person and system on the planet," he said.

Similarly for Weiner, this purchase is seen as the next step forward for LinkedIn. An excerpt from his electronic mail to LinkedIn staff reads: "When this had been beginning proposed, nosotros both agreed that it is admittedly essential that we had alignment on two things: purpose and structure. On the former, it didn't take long earlier the 2 of us realised we had near identical mission statements. For LinkedIn, it was to connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful. For Microsoft, it is to empower every private and arrangement in the world to achieve more than. Essentially, we're both trying to do the same affair but coming at it from two different places: For LinkedIn, it's the professional network, and for Microsoft, the professional cloud. Combined, it volition be unique and take the potential to unlock some enormous opportunities."

Nadella has confirmed in his e-mail to all Microsoft employees that this combination will go far possible for new experiences to be developed. This includes creating a LinkedIn newsfeed that serves upwards articles based on the project that are being worked on or having Microsoft Part suggesting an expert to connect with via LinkedIn to help with completing a chore.

"Equally these experiences get more intelligent and delightful, the LinkedIn and Office 365 appointment will abound. And in turn, new opportunities will be created for monetisation through individual and organisation subscriptions and targeted advertising," he added.

More details will come to light during the investor conference that both Nadella and Weiner are attending to right now.
